Product Notes

Nilanjana is a Sanskrit word repeated during the opening track of this recording. It translates as 'dark blue' and is a mantra for the planet Saturn. The ultimate effect of this chant is to confer the strength, discipline, and 'grounded-ness,' to carry out one's dharma - or life purpose. FROM THE PRODUCER It is interesting to notice how commonplace the expression "mantra" has become in recent times. It's not unusual to hear anyone, from sports professionals to politicians to business executives, proudly proclaiming their own personal mantras as a demonstration of their conviction and commitment to what it is they are passionate about. Of course they are not referring to "mantra" in the classical sense. However, they are using the very same principles that yogis and spiritual seekers have known for a long, long time. The idea that repetition of a word or phrase can truly be a powerful force to facilitate change is not new. All of the chants that Sitara is leading on this recording are ancient Sanskrit mantras that contain the seed energy for transformation. The singing comes mainly in the form of Kirtan, a call-and-response devotional chanting practice. Chanting, or even listening to these mantras can be a catalyst for change that has been known to open the heart and initiate a shift in consciousness. As the great spiritual teacher, Amma, says: "(Chanting) with one-pointedness, will benefit the singer, the listener and also Mother Nature. Such songs will awaken the listeners' minds in due course."
