Product Notes

The Artists: Milind Raikar, a renowned artist of today's generation, began his study of Hindustani music at a very young age, with his father, the late Atchut Raikar, musician, vocalist, playwright and actor. He also studied violin in the western style at Santa Cecilia School of Music, under Carlos Costa. Heeding the inexorable call of Indian classical music, he went on to train with Pandit B. S. Math, Pandit Vasantrao Kadnekar, and Padmashree Pandit D. K. Datar. In 1996, the legendary vocalist of India Kishori Amonkar offered to become his teacher, an opportunity that he eagerly accepted. Since then, he has been her pupil, disciple and accompanist at recitals worldwide. He has also accompanied diverse personalities ranging from top pop star Remo Fernandez to bhajan (devotional song) samrat (king) Anup Jalota. He toured East African countries and Muscat with the top pop star Remo Fernandes and performed in 'Le Festival ULO fete l'Indea Renens' in Switzerland. He also toured the US for violin solo performances in various cities across the country. He is the first Indian classical music artist to perform in the 'Bang On A Can' in New York in 2007. He has provided musical direction to a documentary film, 'In Search Of Truth', in which he also has a singing role. He is the first Indian musician to receive a prestigious fellowship from the Civitella Ranieri Foundation of Italy in 2008. Now settled in Andheri, Mumbai, he has founded the Raikar Violin Academy. He has a style of playing and technique which is quite unique. He has also championed a novel bow-hold, all his own. Rohidas Parab: He began taking early lessons in tabla from his father the late. Shri Krishna Vishram Parab, elder brother Shri. Vilas Parab, and Shri. Bhalchandra Parsekar. Later he received guidance from Pt. Mohan Balavalli, Pt. Bapu Patwardhan and Pt. Bhai Gaitonde. He has accompanied many prominent vocal and instrumental artists and has toured United Arab Emirates (UAE), UK and USA several times as an accompanist. Serenity - The Music: Raag Todi: This is a mid morning melody with the notes ascending: Sa re ga Ma+ dha Na Sa' and descending: Sa' Ni Dha Pa Ma+ Ga Ra Sa. The structure of this raga suggests a mood of devotion and compassion. The artist begins the performance in a slow tempo set to ektaal (12 beats) followed by a faster tempo in teen taal (16 beats) .The artiste gives the traditional and elaborate treatment to the raga bringing out the full essence of the raag. Raag Asa-Arabi This is a rare melody with the notes Sa Re Ma Pa Dha Sa in ascending and Sa Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Re Ga Re Sa in descending order and is close to Raga Durga. Pt. Vasantrao Kadnekar taught this Raga. Lalashree: This melody is the artist's own composition, a blend of Raga Shree and Bairagi and is an unique example of his creativity, virtuosity and individuality. The artist's guru and father Late Shri. Achyut Raikar was also known to his family as "Lala' and so the artist has named his composition Raga Lalashree.
