After their ship docked in mid-19th-century New York, two abandoned twin foundlings would be brought up into different fates, with Anne de Rhonde (Marion Davies) raised to Washington Square wealth and Fely O'Tandy (Davies, again) a product of the tenements. Fate would find their paths crossing again-as Fely was courted by Anne's adoptive brother Dirk (Conrad Nagel)-in this glossy historical vehicle boasting early color sequences.
