Product Notes

For those of you who already know about Destinations Unknown or have seen a live performance somewhere before, they know that Destinations Unknown has been one of the music industry's best kept secrets. If you missed the 2006 debut promo release, not to worry, because it's not too late to get behind this gem. From start to finish, there are some great songs that you'll want to download and listen to over and over again. There are plenty of good reasons why you should buy this EP. The first and most relevant reason is that it doesn't sound like anything that you've ever heard before. That is not by accident. After you give 'Experiments in the Garage' a listen, it will be unmistakably clear how Destinations Unknown has defied the obvious and easy comparisons to other artists. With Destinations Unknown, there is no pretention or imitation. Stereotypes have deliberately been shunned and cast aside. Stylistically, Destinations Unknown's musical palette is so versatile and idiosyncratic that no two songs are bound to sound even remotely similar to each other. All of the recordings have been captured live in a studio during a series of late night sessions. The use of special digital effects and electronic gadgetry were kept to a minimum. In fact, the only two instruments heard are an acoustic guitar and a singing voice. Beyond that, nothing else was added into the mix so that what remains are acoustic versions of songs that have been stripped-down naked to their most bare and essential forms. Perhaps, it is in this sense that you could describe 'Experiments in the Garage' as minimalist acoustic pop. As for the songs themselves, 'Experiments in the Garage' opens with the hauntingly powerful and eerily dark Gothic anthem 'Fiends'. From the lure, seduction and temptation of drug addiction we get 'No. 18', a song about unrequited love and a woman's attempts to come to terms with having everything she wants except the man she truly loves. 'Drones' is raw, unapologetic acoustic power-pop at it's finest. 'Drones' captures all of the angst and frustration of a young artist who still finds himself caught in the throes of a love-hate relationship for which there is no escape. The fourth and most radio-friendly track on 'Experiments in the Garage' picks-up where the classical Italian poet, Ovid, has left off. 'Metamorphosis' delivers yet another dose of raw emo power-pop that bundles lyrics, guitar and melody all together to tell the story of a young woman struggling to live, trust and love again. With a 'Different End' and the bonus track 'The Choice is Mine', the EP draws to a close with a pair of poetic and meditative songs about unfulfilled promises, melancholy and yearning. August, 2012.
