Product Notes

Dedicated to Satish Kumar, Earth Pilgrim - "When we are in awe and wonder at the working of the earth we cannot but feel blessed and grateful". 1. Remembered Earth - An introduction with lyrics inspired by N. Scott Momaday (1934-). A timely reminder to tune into the land and it's creatures. Once in his life a man ought to concentrate his mind upon the remembered earth. He ought to give himself up to a particular landscape in his experience, to look at it from as many angles as he can, to wonder upon it, to dwell upon it. He ought to imagine that he touches it with his hands at every season and listens to the sounds that are made upon it. He ought to imagine the creatures there and all the faintest motions of the wind. 2. Earthsong - A tribute to the infinite interest and beauty of the natural world. 3. Trees - with lyrics inspired by John Constable and William Blake. The world is wide; no two days are alike, nor even two hours; neither were there ever two leaves of a tree alike since the creation of the world. The tree, which moves some to tears of joy, is, in the eyes of others only a green thing which stands in the way. Nature is imagination itself. Twisting and turning along a spherical path grow the years of an aging tree, then an axe brakes the wheel for all eternity. 4. Tears Will Always Fall - All people everywhere can feel that we have lost a sense of balance between the rights of humans and the rights of nature. 5. No Divisions - All living things depend upon each other. I see unity in our diversity. Each tide can bring a new discovery. But the internal rhythm is disturbed. I breathe more peacefully when there are no divisions. I see small dots of light on the dark canvass of countries at war. Are you a peace-builder? Hostility dissolves. Understanding Grows. Nourish all human beings. 6. One Language - If you truly know the art of listening then there is only one language in this world... 7. Long I Stood - with lyrics inspired by Robert Frost's poem The Road Not Taken. Live adventurously! Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveller, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; then took the other, as just as fair, and having perhaps the better claim because it was grassy and wanted wear; though as for that the passing there had worn them really about the same, and both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black. Oh I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I - I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference. 8. Just Be - with lyrics inspired by Paul Johnson, a man who gave up his hectic city life to live on a remote island. This song is a meditation on the art of existence. I stand and gaze at the rolling breakers on the sea, the birds riding the storms and the changing colours that paint the evening sky with reds and golds...A voice whispered in my ear "Stop trying to be, and just be". 9. Dancing in Rain - you should try it sometime! 10. Be the Change - with lyrics inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. This song is dedicated to you. Be the change that you seek in the world. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. 11. Mind Shift - "We need to make a fundamental shift, a paradigm shift, a shift from ownership to relationship. We do not own nature, we have a relationship with nature. Nature does not belong to us, we belong to nature. Nature is a gift to nourish all living beings" - Satish Kumar. Shift your mind...shift your heart...shift your soul to higher ground. May all beings everywhere be happy and free. 12. This One Earth - with lyrics based on a poem by John Daniel, A Prayer Among Friends. This song is dedicated to all the wonderful staff and children of Thomas's Battersea. Among the other wonders of our lives, we are alive with one another, we walk here in the light of an unlikely world that isn't ours for long. May we spend generously the time we are given. May we enact our responsibilities as thoroughly as we enjoy our pleasures. May we seek clarity, may we seek a vision that serves all beings, may we honour the mystery of surpassing our sight, and may we hold in our hands the gift of good work and bear it forth whole, as we were borne forth by a power we praise to this one earth, this homeland of all we love.
