Product Notes

Escape into a quieter and calmer place this holiday season! Debra Wendells Cross and Barbara Chapman bring serenity and soulful inspiration to holiday favorites, in their critically-acclaimed Christmas compact disc 'Love's Pure Light'. With Robert W. Cross, percussion. "Cross's flute playing and Chapman's harp are woven together into a gold-and-silver tapestry of almost unearthly quality." Tom Robotham, Port Folio Weekly " The album is a treasure trove of wonderful settings......this disc goes straight to the top of my â€-must have' recordings for this Christmas season" Raymond WHRO Radio and Virginia Daily Press For over 15 years, the flute and harp duo of Debra Wendells Cross and Barbara Chapman have delighted audiences with their signature sound of lyrical beauty. Their repertoire ranges from standard repertoire, the best of contemporary chamber music and fresh arrangements of old favorites. Both long-time members of the Virginia Symphony, the Cross and Chapman duo are featured annually on the Chamber Music Series of the Virginia Arts Festival and are broadcast nationally on NPR's 'Performance Today'. About the Arrangements 'The Holly and the Ivy', 'Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella' and 'Stille Nacht' feature the arrangements of Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller. Recently published for flute solo with accompaniment, Chip Davis' arrangements have an amazingly new and fresh sound, that works great for flute and harp. 'It Came Upon the Midnight Clear', 'Il Est Ne', 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel' and 'Good King Wenceslas/Ding-Dong Merrily on High' are arranged by the flute/harp duo of Ernie and Becky Brock. These arrangements are wonderfully popular in flute and harp circles because they are interesting, challenging (and fun!) to play, as well as delightful to hear. Brent Havens arranged 'Patapan/Carol of the Bells' for the Cross and Chapman duo and included music for Robert Cross, percussionist, in the arrangement. Brent Havens writes lots of film scores and commercial music, and even has a successful show 'Music of Led Zeppelin' which tours in conjunction with symphony orchestras. John Dixon, a research hound for ancient Christmas Carols, offers a tranquil track to the CD. 'Jesus Christ our Salvation' is a peacefully pure flute and harp interlude from one of his numerous cantatas for chorus and small ensemble. The Cross and Chapman duo is inspired by a renaissance sound in 'Lo, How a Rose e'er Blooming' and inspired by new age harmonies in 'What Child is This. The hauntingly beautiful Spanish piece 'Carol of the Birds' is also a Cross and Chapman arrangement. What's a Christmas CD without Lullabies? The Lullabies track blends Polish and Welsh lullabies into a serene and comforting medley. The Welsh lullaby 'All through the Night' ends the set. Selections for harp solo include 'Still, Still, Still' arranged by Daniel Burton and 'Away in the Manger' arranged by Kim Robertson and 'In the Bleak Midwinter' arranged by Sunita Staneslow.
