Product Notes

'Christmas Time of the Year' is Bruce Bergh's newest Christmas release CD. The project started 12/1/10 as the single, 'Christmas Time of theYear' was written. It was the first snowfall in Chicago where dozens of cars were stranded on Lake Shore Drive that inspired the second verse. It offered a contrast to the first verse that was originally going to be entitled Christmas Cliches. The romance of Christmas clashing with the harsh reality of winter weather creates a unique and fun song. Several awards later, and after a couple of movie placements, additional new material was written & recorded, creating the album. 'Jimmy's Housetop' is a takeoff on the Christmas classic 'Up On The Housetop'. It's a fun look at Santa spreading Christmas joy throughout the neighborhood. It starts with a Jazz piano/vocal intro that evolves into a harmonic bluegrass band. 'Happy You're My Friend' captures the excitement of visiting a longtime good friend, and all the feelings and thoughts that go with it. The singer-songwriter whistle and vocal 'ooh-ooh' start the song with acoustic guitar and finger snap accompaniment. The 'Ooh-ooh' was the way Bruce used to communicate with his brother, Steve, as kids around the neighborhood. 'A Christmas Together' was written while Bruce was working in Alaska. It's a longing to return to his family and be together for the holidays. 'It's the Jingle of the Bells' was written in the parking lot of Target in Orland Park, IL. Sometimes inspiration comes from the strangest places! 'Great to be Back' was written as a speculation for a baking commercial. It's in an Americana genre, and has evolved to include vocal harmonies and additional instrumentation. 'The Christmas Lamb' was written for a church program in the mid 70's. A revamp of lyrics and a new arrangement including choirs and orchestra was created in 2010. 'A Winter's Ride' was a speculation composition for a Google commercial in it's basic form. Listening to the recording, it sounded like ride in the woods, so bird calls, horse effects and sleigh bells were added. It's a fun instrumental! Bergh wanted in intimate, sexy Christmas song that sounded like a retro Barry White R&B classic. The chord charts are Bergh's favorite part of the recording, along with the Take 6 vocal tracks from his Kurzweil sample library. Of course, the idea of being 'A Personal Santa' to his wife, Beth, was the main reason he wrote it! Check out more of Bruce Bergh: Bruce Bergh's 2014 release, "Night Life", is a collection of original Jazz Vocal tunes written during 2011-13 as a nightlife entertainer in some of Chicago's finest dining establishments. Bergh joined forces with the Chicago based band "Midnight" in 2012. From Glen Miller to Chicago to The Tower of Power; from the 1940's through today. Bergh studied at Sherwood Music School and the University of Chicago, and has written hundreds of songs, commercial music and jingles, as well as arranged music for a large number of clients through the years at his three recording studios.
