Product Notes

The Band: Longtime friends Harrison Stone, Marc Shapiro, Carson Korman, and Dave Cavalier started playing music together in the summer of 2006. Born of a desire to transcend genres and blend their diverse tastes and inspirations into something new and unique, Humanoise (formerly The Rez) has been constantly exploring and reinventing itself. The result? An ever-changing yet always distinct sound that doesn't just rock, but rolls. Drawing influence from the likes of artists such as Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age and Talking Heads, Humanoise's subtle 90s rock vibe combined with a healthy dose of modern and progressive acrobatics makes the group an anomaly on the Baltimore/Annapolis music scene. Now, more than seven years in, the band is still evolving. With two EPs recorded as The Rez, the band has refined it's focus, changed it's name, and has released it's first full-length studio album. Humanoise creates provocative and playful music that challenges listeners to think, to feel, to laugh, and to open their minds to something new and unexpected. The Album: With their eponymous debut LP, Humanoise puts forth a progressive manifesto. Decrying the ills of an economic system gone awry and an ecosystem pushed to the brink, these four high-minded troubadours from Baltimore have an urgent message for the world: "Open your eyes!" And so begins the first track on the album: "Chase a dream you'd never dare and the reward will invariably be there," starts vocalist, Harrison Stone, with the quick-to-hit opening line. This sets the tone for what will be a 54-minute call to action. "You can't let reality weigh you down to the point that you feel powerless to act," says Stone when asked about the message of the album. "It's easy, in the face of such a big uphill battle, to give up before you even attempt to make a difference. This album is our attempt at making a difference, and if it encourages the listener to do something to make a difference as well, then we've succeeded." Rich with harmonies, chugging guitars, and crashing drums, this intro track serves as a prologue for things to come. Sometimes philosophical, other times political, and always provocative, Humanoise is a focused work that demonstrates the musicianship and ambition of this young, hungry rock band.
